DepEd’s MG class improves brgy learning in Mindanao

PAGADIAN CITY: Some P38 million were appropriated by DepEd for the improvement of basic education in the so-called multi-grade (MG) classes, a new report reaching The Philippine Preview said.

DepEd Sec. Armin Luistro said they organized MG classes, in groups of 20 to 25 pupils in different grade levels, early this school year.

The MG class, usually fund in remote elementary schools, is being handled by one teacher who will help the pupils to finish the six-year elementary course using appropriate instructional methods.

Deped created a total of 510 MG in western and southern Mindanao, including ARMM, complete with instructional materials, pupils’ learning kits, school supplies and other requirements.

DepEd-9 director Malcolm Garma said the MG classes have helped uplift the academic advance of school-age children in remote areas, especially the depressed areas.
