Every year, as Pagadian City observes Philippine Independence Day on June 12, it will also mark the official opening of the 10-day celebration of this city’s charter anniversary.

“Araw ng Pagadian,” as it is called, will run June 12-21, and will feature the motorcade of local beauties around its major streets.

Mayor Samuel Co, in his message during the 110th Independence Day program at the Plaza Luz, told the crowd: “Today, as we officially open the 39th Araw ng Pagadian, together, let us look to the future. We shall advance our gains in ways that will strengthen our role as the center of regional influence.”

“We will work together and foster cooperative respect and collective pride. We shall keep hope alive, and continue to bear with one another, as we all move to the great future that beckons us,” he added.

This year’s charter anniversary theme is, “Pagadian Malambuon, Katawhan Mauswagon.”

“Indeed, it is our responsibility to make our independence last forever. We must reiterate today our resolve to defend our nation. This will be the greatest legacy that we can proudly leave behind for our next generation,” was the mayor’s Independence Day message.

Co then told residents the virtue of sacrifice, “so that our children can have a better tomorrow. I pray to the Almighty to provide us the wisdom, knowledge, physical resources and ability to work hard to succeed in our missions. There lies our hope for Philippines and hope for Pagadian.”

He added twin celebrations are the city’s sacred remembrance, since it is the birthday of the country’s political freedom.

“Unsurprisingly, it carries out minds back to the day, and to the act of our great deliverance; and to signs, and to the wonders, associated with that act. Pride and patriotism, no less than gratitude, prompt us to celebrate and to hold it in perpetual remembrance,” he continued.

“We must resolutely move forward, and using the lessons we have learned from the past, we must never permit ourselves to overlook our primary duty to confront the challenges of the present and of our future,” Co said.

As his point to residents, he has this to say: “We are being counted among the ranks of competitive cities. We must not stop. Rather, we must step up the speed of our journey. Progress should be our call. An as we continue to be aggressive in promoting the full potential and capacity of Pagadian as the regional center of commerce, trade, wellness, recreation, education, opportunity and resources, it should be every Pagadianon’s adage, Padayon Pag asenso Pagadian.”

The city at present is packed out with visitors, with carnivals and rides already in place at Plaza Luz, which also included food booths and stalls selling RTWs, and plants from the flea market.
