DENR to mark Environment Month

THE environment and natural resources office (DENR) will spearhead a tree-planting activity on June 25, with some 5,000 narra and mahogany trees to be be planted along the North Diversion road.

PENRO Rito Ordiz said the tree planting activity is one of the highlights of the Environment Month Celebration this month.

Last June 5, several activities were made like an Eco-walk or Lakad Para sa Kalikasan, where participants carried plards bearing the themes : “Kick the Habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy!” and “Kapaligiran at Likas na Yaman: Ating Kinabukasan.”

June 16, a photo exhibit will be held at the Liga Convention Center and on June 17, a quiz bowl, to be participated by high school students, held at the DENR Office.

June 18 will be the coastal and river clean up and Urban regreening with the city government, headed by the Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO).

June 25 is “Arbor Day,” a revisitation and replanting of the Green Philippine Highways at the North Diversion Road from Tiguma to Buenavista while the celebration will culminate on June 30.

Ordiz further said the observance of the events is a reminder to Filipinos to be aware of their responsibilities in environmental concerns to mitigate climate change.

He then encouraged government officials, employees, civic and NGO’s to participate in the month long activities.
