Ten ‘piccolo’ blast victims recorded in R-10

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Ten firecracker blast victims were recorded so far in the whole of Region 10, a day after the New Year celebration.

In an interview with DxRU-Radio Ultra, provincial administrator Jun Pacamalan disclosed seven of the victims came from around Misamis Oriental.

The individuals were brought to different hospitals in Cagayan de Oro, Balingasag, Gingoog, Claveria, , Manticao, Initao and El Salvador, reports Radio Ultra.

Most blast victims are injured with “piccolo,” which accounts for 38 percent of the injuries on victims, a DOH briefer said.

The Department of Health (DOH) earlier launched its anti-firecracker campaign by calling on parents to strictly restrict their children from using or playing with any kind of pyrotechnics for this News Year revelry.

DOH said there were already 997 fireworks injuries, including one death, in welcoming the year 2014.
