BUTUAN
CITY: More than 3,000 evacuees at the Agusan National High School (ANHS), here,
expressed dismay over their sad plight, which included hunger, thirst and lack
of power supply.
The
sprawling ANHS is a selected evacuation center whenever calamities strike Caraga
Region.
But
the school is old and its structure getting weaker, according to school teachers
there, which is dangerous and poses grave danger to evacuees especially when an
earthquake would happen.
An
evacuee named Jun Ytem criticized the mayor for not showing up to see his constituents’
predicament.
Ytem
said water supply is difficult for them, they use used the waters in the
drainage to wash their hands, clothes, dishes and in cleaning the toilets, even
take a bath.
He
added relief goods arrived late, they have to cook their own food, and when it
arrived from the CSWD only five kilos of rice, noodles and coffee in entirety.
We
expect the mayor to come to console us but he didn’t show up, he said.
Another
evacuee named Buddy Samonte from Brgy. Buhangin, said he missed the mayor’
Christmas greeting as this would have cheered his family.
Melly
Campos and Marites Belano, both also from Brgy. Buhangin, said they cooked
lugaw out of the given rice to hold together their family’s meal ration for at
least three days.
Anacorita
de Leon, a neighbor, said she hopes any city official who would care to drop by
a visit today or tomorrow would do. (WITH REPORTS FROM BEN SERRANO)
