Schools urged to support ‘green shelter’


PAGADIAN CITY: The academe must do its share in actively promoting a green environment, Schools Division Superintendent Felix Romy A. Triambulo recently said.

Triambulo directed his call to all students and teachers to take part in the national government’s campaign for climate change adaptation and mitigation.

Triambulo likewise is positive the students and teachers will help in sustaining and looking after the school programs and activities to succeed in presenting sustainable and eco-friendly schools in the region.

It was learned that Tulawas Integrated School (TIS) emerged as regional winner of the Nestle Water Leadership Award (NWLA) in the 2013 search for sustainable and eco-friendly schools.

The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) of the DENR launched first in 2009 the search for sustainable and eco-friendly schools.

The Buenavista Elementary School in Gulatalac, Zamboanga del Norte and Sulangon National High School in Dapitan City then were the regional winners.

The search has been conducted every two years after that with Siayan National High School in Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte and Universidad de Zamboanga in Zamboanga City as regional winners in 2011.

For 2013, the regional winners were Ayala Elementary School in Zamboanga City and Manukan National High School in Manukan, Zamboanga del Norte.

The TIS here took hold of the NWLA while Sicayab Elementary School and Dipolog National High School of Dipolog City got the Meralco Leadership Award.

Sustainable and eco-friendly schools are recognized to have made the first move and included the promotion of a green environment in their instructions, programs and activities.
