NGCP’s campaign continues for line safety in Misoc

OZAMIZ CITY: The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is persistent in its campaign on the dangers of trespassing on their transmission perimeters.

The PIA said NGCP’s education and communication campaign in Misamis Occidental continues.

This involves a sequence of information, lawyer Cynthia Perez-Alabanza, head of Corporate Communications and NGCP spokesperson, said.

First, is the wide-ranging reminder not to plant trees beneath NGCP electrical transmission towers, to prevent lines to trip, resulting in blackouts, she said.

Second, is never to build bonfires under transmission towers, as these can likewise cause power interruptions in the area.

Third, is to avoid the construction of structures immediately under the transmission towers to avoid fire accidents, Alabanza added.

More of NGCP’s campaign stressing the dangers includes kite flying, climbing transmission structures, parking of vehicles and selling pilfered tower parts.

When passing transmission structures, carrying long sticks or any object is also a no-no as these might get near or come in contact with the power transmission lines, NGCP said.

The NGCP, in its statement obtained by The Philippine Preview, said it is continually restoring and upgrading its existing facilities to ensure safety of their transmission lines and substations.
