Fun run vs crime picks up 2,000 sprinters

ZAMBOANGA CITY: About 2,000 sprinters were counted in a fun run event here last Sunday sponsored by the civil society organization (CSO).

The runners joined the “Run, Walk, Roll Against Crime” in response to Mayor Beng Climaco-Salazar’s call to citizens to help put a stop to criminal activities in the city.

Runners from this city’s 98 barangays joined in a bid to steel themselves and help prevent the occurrences of crimes in their respective areas of responsibility.

Eugene Estipona, #PSZambo Fun Run coordinator, said that crime prevention and reduction is a social responsibility where everyone must help.

Estipona added the said event will likewise spread awareness of their cause for a safer city for all.

The five-kilometer “Run, walk, roll against crime” started at the Paseo del Mar, passed through Veterans Avenue to Gov. Chavez and Sucabon, the City Hall, and back to Paseo del Mar.

Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde, who represented the mayor, was there along with the CSO members.

In the said event, USAID-ENGAGE chief of party Barry Reed also turned-over a set of IT equipment to Crime Watch Volunteers (CWV) of this city.

The fun run is the first in a series of advocacy activities with the initiative of CSO to reduce the incidence of crime.
