FIVE multi-millionaires live in Pagadian City, this information from the briefing paper of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) Vis-Min data on sales, outlets and social services for online lottery sector.
Distributed to journalists during PCSO’s media interaction at Bay Plaza Hotel last June 11, the paper stated that a total of P222,703,561.59 was won in 2008, or close to P45 million each for the winners, if divided equally.
Also, there are about 17 jackpot winners in the whole of Zamboanga del Sur, accumulating a total wealth of P348,505,773.88, or P20 million each, again if divided equally among themselves.
About 143 identified lottery outlets can be found in the whole of Zamboanga Peninsula and 86 of these are scattered in Zambosur while 10 are being placed in Pagadian.
The total amount won in Pagadian has a difference of P105 million greater than that collected by winners from Zamboanga City, although jackpot winners in the chavacano city listed 11, and beating also Pagadian’s number of outlets with 64.
Zamboanga City likewise posted a total sales of P347,557,440 in 2008, way higher than Pagadian’s P65,395,700 during the same period.
The PCSO paper added that combined gross sales for 2008 in Region 9 is P634,702,810.
William Medici, PCSO department manager for Vis-Min online lottery, said his office has disbursed an overall P12,651,347.80 for Region 9 in 2008, benefiting 2,937 patients in their various charity services.
Medici added that PCSO has raised the living standards of their patients through their services and programs like the endowment fund for private and public hospitals, the individual medical assistance program, support to orphanages and charitable institutions, upgrading of hospitals and, health care and related facilities, ambulance donation, aid to the National Calamity and Disasters Program and other mandatory contributions.
But Medici stressed their plan to revive the traditional sweepstakes draw will boost their services to the indigents while complementing other online lottery games launched by PCSO since its inception.
The revival of the sweepstakes was timed during PCSO’s 75th anniversary this year, themed: “Spreading the charity virus” with P75 million for the first prize. Draw date is on Sept. 8.
