MARAWI CITY—Thirteen mayors from this province have manisfested their support to help the National Transmission Corporation (Transco) secure its facilities in Lanao.
This came after sporadic bombings happened in the hinterlands of Lanao targeting Transco towers, which resulted to power blackouts in areas serviced by the toppled facilities.
So far, Transco has counted nine damaged towers since October, last year. All have been repaired though, as Transco keeps saying such acts is the handiwork of lawless elements or extortionists.
In a recent Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) held at the Lanao del Sur Provincial Capitol building, Gov. Mamintal “Bombit” Adiong said Transco’s expensive facilities “should be taken care of and beprotected by people in the area.”
For his part, Mayor Dimnatang Pansar of Butig said in an interview said that vandals should be brought to court.
“Such kind lawless acts should be stopped for it is destroying the image of the province,” he said.
Another mayor, Fahad Salic of Marawi City, said towers serving the city have been guraded day and night by barangay law enforcement forces, who are receiving allowances from the city government.
Meanwhile, Lorrymir Adasa, Transco Mindanao operations and maintenance vice president disclosed that Transco is willing to give any assistance to local government units in securing its transmission towers.
Aside from LGUs’ own efforts, both the military and police are also on guard in protecting the said facilities.
