ILIGAN CITY—Barangay Kiwalan, this city, will soon build houses for Gawad Kalinga (GK), Jun Dumaog, punong barangay, said.
The 7.8 hectare property of the barangay has been reserved for the GK project, which is predicted to attract tourists because of its unique architecturial designs featuring European outlines.
Dumaug, said that the said project is still on its planning stage.
“No one was willing yet to handle the project because of our condition, that there will be no cutting of trees and that the forest surrounding the property will not be disturbed,” he explained.
Dumaog then added that they came up with the design after traveling around Mindanao.
He adds that the concept for their modern GK houses is to give residents a sense of dignity.
Another one hectare of land acquired by the village will be used soon for the purpose, and for DepEd.
He further said that some P4-million was donated by the Japanese government to build an eight-classroom school building.
The financial aid was turned over by the Japanese government, through its Japanese Ambassador, to the DepEd officials in the barangay.
Dumaug added that Ms. Evelyn dela Paz del Rosario, one of the owners of PLDT likewise donated P2-million the said undertaking.
