Zampen Subanen youth forms group

IPIL, ZAMBO SIBUGAY: The Subanen youth has recently formed the regional Subanen Youth Organization (syo) during its 1st Subanen Youth Congress held at Roderic’s Resort here recently.

Pastor Allan B. Mangangot, SYO youth adviser, said that the Subanen youth is the hope of the tribe and strength to keep their culture and traditions.

All the 80 SYO participants came from the three provinces of Zamboanga and Zamboanga City.

Mangangot said the Subanen youth in Zampen is one and united because of the SYO, which will keep Subanen culture, beliefs, and traditions to flourish and grow all the way.

The Subanen people of Zampen including those in Misamis Occidental are the real Mindanaoans who had historically never been seized nor enslaved by other groups, Mangangot added.

With modernization, the Subanen tribe also keeps up, with its values and customs remain intact.

Louie Lanaja, field coordinator of ZamPen Subanen youth, likewise said that the youth gathering was a vehicle for change and transformation for the Subanen Tribe.

The National Indigenous Peoples Commission (NCIP), Global Subanen Association (GSA), and Zamboanga Sibugay NCIP Provincial Coordinator Princess “Bae Labi” Sonita Ryde supported the SYO event.
