ILIGAN
CITY: Iligan City Rep. Vicente “Varf” Belmonte arrived home safely here after
having been reported waylaid in Languindingan, Misamis Oriental, killing his
driver and security guards.
The
congressman was also quick to point the attack is with political motive, even
naming Iligan City mayor Celso Regencia as the mastermind.
“Prangka
ug way lipod-lipod nga gitumbok ni Belmonte si Regencia nga maoy mimando sa
pagpapatay kaniya,” reports DxRU-Rado Ultra.
“Bisan
sa mga pang-publikong panagpulong, wala kunoy lipod-lipod si Regencia nga moingong
ipatumba siya,” continued the radio report.
Regencia’s
spokesperson, Eleno Gelleca Bacus Jr., said Belmonte was fabricating lies to get back at city residents who don’t like him.
Bacus
said Regencia chose to be silent and will only wait for authorities to release
their findings as to who really masterminded the ambush against the congressman.
Belmonte’s
camp believes a dozen suspects are involved in getting him killed.
Belmonte’s
convoy was ambushed, Dec. 11, near the Laguindingan airport from his
trip in Manila and on his way home for Iligan City.
The
congressman suffered bruises from shrapnels of broken windshield of his car.
Belmonte’s
driver was hit and killed on the spot, while two security escorts were
brought to the hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival.
Three
were injured, including Belmonte, and were brought to the hospital for
treatment.
Police
has already filed multiple murder and frustrated murder charges against one arrested suspect
in the ambush.
