Seniang batters Caraga


BUTUAN CITY: Senaing has entered the area of Caraga region and Butuan bringing with her strong winds and heavy rains that resulted to power outages in this city, dawn of Dec. 29.

Some electric cooperatives in the region decided to turn off power in most areas due danger of falling electric posts because of battering strong winds.

Dinagat Island is now under alert level 3 while the rest of Caraga Region is placed on alert level 2.

Sea transport over all of Caraga was already halted including fishing boats, the OCD Caraga regional office announced.

Water level at the Agusan River that transverses provinces of Compostela Valley, Agusan del Norte and Sur, with this city as catch basin is now at alarming level, said the CDRRMC.

Barangay Baan head Gemma Tabada said their village, which is situated near Agusan River assisted more than 50 families who fled their homes as the water level rose to close three meters.

All evacuating residents from Baan were secured at Florencio Sibayan Elementary School here.

A DSWD Caraga regional office report stated that as of Dec. 28, four municipalities and eleven villages were affected with 111 families and 398 persons evacuated in eight evacuation centers. (WITH REPORTS FROM BEN SERRANO)
