OZAMIZ
CITY: In its campaign against the improper use of firearms to celebrate
Christmas and New Year, the PNP, last Dec. 22, began taping the muzzles of
their issued guns.
Police
OIC deputy director Gen. Leonardo Espina said his memorandum reminding all PNP
personnel to intensify in its campaign against indiscriminate firing during the
holidays.
Indiscriminate
firing during the holidays has been a perennial problem in the country and the traditional
gun muzzle is a strong message to all gun owners, especially policemen and military,
Espina said.
As the primary enforcers of the law, they
must refrain from firing their guns and
help prevent casualties and injuries during the revelry of the yuletide, added
Espina, as stray bullets from illegal discharge of firearms is a constant issue
Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The
police official said that the PNP will be working with the AFP and other law
enforcement agencies to pinpoint likely violators.
