Fire destroys old DepEd building

ZAMBOANGA CITY: Fire burned to the ground one of old buildings previously occupied by the DepEd in San Jose and Normal Streets, this city.

City fire marshal Supt. Dominador Zabala Jr. said the fire that broke out Monday afternoon razed to the ground two buildings and destroyed three others.

He added that the building razed to the ground belongs to Western Mindanao State University high school department and the other was formerly occupied by the DepEd.

The Basic Education Assistance for Mindanao of Aus-aid presently occupies the old DepEd building.

Zabala said they are still determining the cause of the fire traced at the second floor of the old DepEd building.

Fire trucks from the BFP, Air Force and Filipino-Chinese Fire Volunteer Brigade and two water tankers of the ZCWD helped contain the fire.

The BFP estimates some P10 million worth of properties were damaged.
