BFP stages more action on fire safety awareness


PAGADIAN CITY: The fire department here has staged more action in its fire safety awareness and prevention campaign for the celebration of the New Year this evening.

City Fire Marshal S/Insp. Reggie Olmedo, said their “Oplan Paalala 2014” is contained in the memorandum circular of the national BFP directing all regional directors, provincial, district, city and municipal fire marshals to carry out the program in preventing fires this holiday season.

Olmedo added the BFP campaign sets to remind the public about the importance of fire safety with the use of pyrotechnics and firecrackers this Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The campaign, he said, would involve various activities such as “fire truck visibility” on scheduled dates giving out tips through its built-in public address system.

The BFP here also distributed pamphlets reminding residents of fire prevention tips.

Olmedo explains that aside from preventing fires, they also emphasize on the danger of firecrackers and other pyrotechnics use.

He added that fire safety inspectors continue to conduct an “Ugnayan Sa Barangay” to inform, educate and remind village residents of their responsibilities to ensure a safe and peaceful holiday season.

The fire chief said they also tapped media support to further intensify their campaign and help them disseminate fire safety tips.

The BFP here has given their hotline emergency number 160 or 2153-255 in case of fire.
