Zambo police, traffic enforcers arrest jaywalkers

ZAMBOANGA CITY: The Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) said they have arrested a total of 387 jaywalking violators in their renewed campaign of this city’s traffic ordinance.

City Ordinance No. 248 includes a provision mandating the proper use of the city’s pedestrian lanes and violation of which is practically the same as jaywalking.

ZCPO reported that a third of the 387 violators paid a fine of P100, while the remaining 116 rendered community services as stipulated for under the said traffic ordinance.

City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr. said the city renewed its campaign against jaywalking to promote orderliness in the downtown area mainly at the busy commercial center.

He added that most of those arrested for the violation were along Climaco Avenue and make up students and transients.
The ZCPO and the city traffic enforcers said they will continue with the campaign to warn inconsiderate pedestrians not to deliberately violate the law.
