Evelyn Uy receives “Robredo Outstanding Mayor award”

DIPOLOG CITY: Mayor Evelyn T. Uy received the “Jesse Robredo Most Outstanding Mayor Award” during the recent general assembly of the Philippine Federation of Local Councils of Women, Inc. (PFLCW) in Tagaytay City, Cavite, PIA reports.

Uy’s effort in conceptualizing the “The Dipolog City Boulevard: Towards Effective Urban Renewal” gained her the award as “Mahusay at Matino na Alkalde.”

The project aims to solve socio-economic and environmental problems brought about by informal settlers along the city’s coastal areas mainly the villages of Central and Miputak.

Uy’s vision was to transform the place into a venue for recreation and economic activities among residents principally benefitting the women.

The PFLCW has launched the award-giving activity in honor of the late DILG Sec. Jesse Robredo who “demonstrated good governance, transparency and faithful stewardship.”

The award sought to recognize the efforts of municipal and city mayors in institutionalizing good governance and implementing economic empowerment programs.

The local chief executives were being rated on their quality of outstanding contribution, impact of performance or contribution, reliability and effectiveness, and consistency of performance.

The creation of the city boulevard has been recognized by the PFLCW as an effective mark of the kind of urbanization that offers an economic expansion enjoyed not only by a few but the majority in respect to environmental preservation.

Uy’s project was also chosen as one of the ten outstanding local governance programs during the Galing Pook Awards 2014.
