DTI distributes weighing scales in Misoc; seizes fake lights in Iligan

OZAMIZ CITY: The trade and industry department (DTI) distributed some 21 units of public weighing scales, known as “Timbangan ng Bayan” in the province recently, says the PIA.

The scales amounted to a total P208,950, exclusive of the cages, and were distributed at one unit each to the provinces’ three cities and 13 municipalities.

The scales also contained a marking in its sides that listed the “eight basic rights and the five responsibilities of consumers,” DTI- Prov. Dir. Delia M. Ayano said.

Launched by the Consumer Welfare Division, the project aims to turn up the concept: “Tamang Timbang, Tamang Presyo, at De-Kalidad na Prudokto” in a bid to promote consumer welfare and healthy business environment.

Ayano said the distribution of the public weighing scales is the highlight of the 2014 Consumer Welfare Month observed every October.

Meanwhile, the DTI in Iligan City confiscated P28-thousand worth of uncertified Christmas lights during its monitoring and enforcement activity last week.

Christmas lights branded as uncertified are those that lack the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) that are substandard, easily overheats and may cause fires.

The DTI said 48 brands of Chistmas lights were given the ICC marks from the years 2012 to 2014.
