PAGADIAN CITY--The Provincial Government will, once again, set off the Summer Youth Fest (SYF) at the Agro-tourism and Heritage Complex (AHC) inside the Provincial Government Center (PGC) in Dao.
Held for the second time around, the SYF will run April 20-29 and is supported by the League of Municipalities in the Philippines (LMP)-Zamboanga del Sur, says Anthony Frederick “Taton” Padayhag of the Provincial Tourism, Culture and Arts
Padayhag describes the activity’s significance as equal to that of Megayon and Pasko Nato, which aims teach and strap up the youth’s artistic skills, physical abilities and cultural sensibilities.
Invited resource persons are the artists of the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) based in Mindanao who will conduct workshops on basic ballet, visual arts and drama.
Also, for teens under 14, there will be sports clinics in football, lawn tennis, Sepak Takraw, archery and marathon.
Padayhag said play-offs and competition will be held following the various sports clinics, which form part of the Comprehensive Sports Development Program of Governor Aurora Cerilles.
Another is the eco-adventure race dubbed “Gukod,” which is expected to attract holiday tourists to participate. Then there’s “Bayking” for children and ZamboSur Skateboarding Invitational event slated in April 25 at the AHC.
Already, the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of the city led by Jay Immanuel Locson is anticipating their participation in the sports event, including the exhibition games among the local chief executives from the two districts of this province.
Additionally, Padayhag disclosed that an an indigenous peoples youth camp for Christian and Muslim youths, called Gayon Bhegombata, will be held, which will serve as cultural immersion among Subanen youth.
In the evening of April 20-23, a band festival will be held and to be participated by rock bands from Midsalip, Kumalarang, Mahayag and Dimataling.
