Two LSU staff cited with CHIMES award


OZAMIZ CITY--Two La Salle University members, a faculty and a staff, add another feather to the university cap by becoming the 2008 Lorenzo M. TaƱada CHIMES Awardees.

CHIMES is the acronym for Common good, Honesty, Integrity, Meritocracy, Excellence, and Service. It is the most prestigious Lasallian award given every year to members of the Lasallian community.

In recognition for their positive difference in the community through their life examples, Dr. Erlita Gulane of the College of Education and Teodulfo Manloza were given the awards.

Gulane is named National Awardee for Faculty Category while Manloza is the School Awardee for Administrator category.

Gulane, in her acceptance during the awarding night, thanked her students for their fortitude.

“Thank you for drawing out the best in me. I’m known to be a tough teacher, someone who sets high standards. I hope they realized by now that being tough means truly caring for them,” she said.

Teachers nominated for CHIMES Awards is somebody who is involved in concrete works of “teaching minds, touching hearts and transforming lives,” one who acknowledges the dignity of every person, respects everyone; generous, helpful, competent, respected at work and diligent.

In short, he or she, as a role model in the community, must have made a difference in the lives of others.
