TANGUB CITY—Mayor Jennifer Wee-Tan always choose to celebrate her birthday, every Nov. 28, with the elderly.

The date was also the 4th Heritage and Culture Week 2008 at the Sinanduloy Cultural Center with the theme, “Handumon ug Ampingan ang Katigulangan ug Ilang mga Kabilin”.

During the affair that evening, awards for best in kimuna, barong and Filipiniana attire were given.

There was a Grand Baile with Gov. Loreto Ocampos, Tan and husband, Philip, dancing with the elders to the tune of the 60’s and 70’s.

Tan said the elderly or the senior citizens should be respected since they contributed greatly to the values of the youth today. She then recalls enjoying the happy faces of the old ones during the party.

“That is why I included them in my program because it’s the best way of expressing care, love and respect to them,” the mayor quipped.

Meanwhile, an 18-minute Musical Revue directed by Tangub Historical Comission consultant and Sinanduloy Cultural Troupe Artistic Director Emilio Pascual was presented.

Another was the historical story by General Commissioner Narcisa Naron narrating how the city’s name evolved from “Tankub,” a native Subanen basket.

The history was presented through a balak by Vice Mayor Edemar Alota, councilor Feloteo Alnguhuro, SP secretary Alestel Dablo and interpreted by Sinanduloy dancers, singers, Sinanduloy all star band and instrumentalist.
