Agusan del Sur now divided into two congressional districts

PROSPERIDAD, AGUSAN DEL SUR—This province will be electing two congressmen on May 2010 national elections after President Gloria Arroyo signed RA 95081 into law last Oct. 26, creating two new congressional districts in Agusan del Sur.

Under RA 95081, the towns of Sibagat, Prosperidad, Talacogon, San Luis, and Esperanza including Bayugan City will now form the first district while the towns of San Francisco, Rosario, Bunawan, Trento, Sta. Josefa, Veruela, Loreto and La Paz comprises the second district.

With this present set up, Caraga now nine congressional districts, to include the first and second districts of Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Island, the first and second districts of Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Norte, respectively and these two new districts.

Agusan del Sur is the biggest province in Caraga with a land area of 47 percent of the total land area of the region.

Congressman Rodolfo “Ompong” Plaza said he welcomes the development, as it will spread progress and opportunities to the two districts.
