OZAMIZ CITY: MEDIA personalities from this city have decried the poor handling of news releases and schedules during last week’s celebration of this city’s 59th charter anniversary when it became clear to them that instead of being the first to know, they were last.

Anchorman Jed Boniao of DXSY scored the city’s Press Information Officer (PIO) for failing to forward any information regarding the fiesta activities lined-up by the city government.

It was learned by
Misamis Probe through news reporter Rey Perocho that former PIO Elena Pelare has been promoted to executive assistant while Connie Rada was designated acting PIO, tasked to relay information on the fiesta activities to all media outfits.

“Nahimo na man ta hinuon nga bola ani sa basketball nga gipasa-pasa,” Boniao depicted his displeasure during his morning program ‘Bantay Lungsod.’

The anchorman was interviewing Councilor Simplicia “Bebie” Neri over the radio to ask for the sequence of the parade and other lined-up activities on the fiesta day when he further commented: “Tan-awa ninyo, ang konsehal na ang nahimong PIO nato ani.”

The same sentiment was also observed in station DXDD. Broadcaster and online editor Neptalie Batolenio, also commented that: “Walay klaro ang tourism. Tingali walay saktong planning. Walay designate kon asa ta moduol. Walay proper info dissemination.”

“Dugay na ko nangayo ug mga ngalan sa kandidata sa Miss Ozamiz Tourism nahuman na lang wala pa ko natagai. Walay oras pa gyod ilang gipanghatag nga schedules,” he added.

As reactions went around the local group Misamis Occidental Media Practitioners Society, Inc. (MOMPS) through text messages, President Expedita “Tata” Roxas commented to Misamis Probe that “Mingaw man ang 59th anniversary, morag wala lang man.”

When reached over text, Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog’s Chief of Staff Miguel “Mike” Ochate, appealed for understanding over the negligence. “Sige lang, bawion nato sa sunod nga mga activities next year,” he said.
