OZAMIZ CITY: REYNALDO “Aldong” Parojinog Sr. “sees heaven” in the recently delivered State of the Nation Address (SONA) by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the mayor’s chief of staff Miguel “Mike” Ochate tells Misamis Probe over the weekend.
Not only was the mayor elated but the mere mention of Ozamiz sent Parojinog on the edge of his seat.
“Of course heaven kayo si Mayor, hehe,” Ochate said on a text message sent over to this paper.
In her SONA, Arroyo said thus: “On July 8, Ozamis Airport opened, bankrolled partly by Leo Ocampos, Aldong Parojinog and Hermie Ramiro's congressional fund. Now, that's the kind of pork that has good cholesterol.”
She added: “At that occasion the MOU was signed for the Pangil Bay Bridge that will connect Ozamis to Lanao del Norte and Iligan.”
“Nalipay kayo si mayor kay first time nga na-mention ang Ozamiz sa SONA sa presidente unya aired worldwide.”
"Thanks sa airport and other projects given by GMA. Many called up Aldong and they are happy to hear GMA acknowledge the city and our mayor," he added.
The Parojinog administration is on an image-building spree this year after it successfully put the city back on the tourism map with the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the construction of the Nuestra Señora del Triunfo de la Cruz fort and shrine.
This July, the mayor’s father, the late Octavio “Kuya Ongkoy” Parojinog Sr. was one of the posthumous TOWER awardees of the city.
TOWER stands for “The Outstanding Work Exemplars Award” and is an annual citation given to commendable residents timed every city charter feast.
The late Parojinog was cited for his selfless dedication in the fight against communist insurgents in the hinterlands of Ozamiz in the early 80’s.
Publicly, Ongkoy was acknowledged as one of the founders and leader of the defunct Kuratong Baleleng, then as a civic-oriented and police assistance group, not the notorious robbery and kidnap-for-ransom gang tag being popularized by the national media.
