City sets off month-long Paskuhan ’08 fanfare

PAGADIAN CITY—The month-long activities presenting the “Paskuhan 2008” opened formally, Dec. 9, with fanfare albeit in simplicity.

Mayor Samuel Co led the program at the Taklobo Stage in Plaza Luz, attended by employees of the city and provincial governments.

Governor Aurora Cerilles was there too.

The opening was coincided with the lighting ceremonies of the giant Christmas tree, Christmas countdown, simultaneous lightning of all Christmas décor contest entries and a grand fireworks display.

A boxing match at the park at 2:00 in the afternoon started it all followed by the opening program at 5:00 o’clock.

A nightly Christmas variety show until Dec. 30 will have local performers from the academe and NGOs showing their singers, dancers in various musical performances.

“I express my heartfelt gratitude to everybody for sharing with us the spirit of Christmas as we officially open the Paskuhan 2008 celebration,” Co said in his speech.

The mayor mentioned many as he expressed his appreciation, which included Dra. Precilla Fernandez of the City Tourism Office, the City Council and the Green House personnel headed by his wife and First Lady Ilang-ilang Co, who is in-charge of the Christmas decoration around city streets and Plaza Luz.

“Thank you for your helping hands. The time, effort and expertise you have given for this endeavor would truly bring back the best consolation as we stand as one in building a happy, colorful and festive atmosphere of Christmas in Pagadian,” Co added.

Cerilles, in recounting everything, said: “Let this Christmas be a time to renew our commitment to work together as one big community strongly heading onward the attainment of our highest aspirations for progress and peace.”

“I am hoping that the spirit of reconciliation and goodwill become the hallmark of success as we accomplish our dreams today and face every tomorrow with vision and hope. May peace and Love be more that a season, may it be a way of life at Christmas and always,” the governor enlightened.

Paskuhan 2008 will end in Jan. 2, next year, as another complimentary activity initiated by the Provincial Government and dubbed as “Pasko Nato 2008,” will commence tomorrow, Dec. 12, at the Provincial Government Complex in Brgy. Dao.
