LSU organizes campus ministries

OZAMIZ CITY—La Salle University’s Campus Ministry Office (LSU-CMO) is doing an on-campus reaffirmation on the recently concluded 3rd National Convention of Campus Ministers in Davao City.

Held at the Waterfront Insular Hotel last Oct. 24-26, the convention keyed in understanding of dialogue and conversation as ministry tools, as well as the relational approaches to building and strengthening faith-communities.

Back here, LSU-CMO will re-echo to LSU students and the Ozamiz Archdiocesan Commission on Education (ACE) schools the points learned in Davao, like identifying concrete and effective tools and approaches to campuses and faith-filled communities.

These seminar trainings are conducted in anticipation of the First Assembly of Campus Ministers and Student Partners that LSU will host on Dec. 20.

Institutional campus minister Joeness Lamban, who attended the convention in Davao, said strengthening LSU’s campus ministry is the key to establishing effective links with other campus ministries in the ACE schools.

“The convention gave me an opportunity to exchange experiences with other campus ministers, learn about the dynamics of campus ministries in other institutions and benchmark our own activities with those of others,” Lamban described his experience.

“Let’s focus first on LSU and the ACE schools as pilot group for the institution of campus ministries and their ministers before extending to the schools of other dioceses,” Lamban explained what his first move would be.

He added that doing this would be a good point of reference for them in the future.

After a meeting, Lamban and ACE schools supervisor Fr. Lanie Serino pick their way though the structure of the campus ministry in ACE schools, adopting the method of training LSU students on the needed skills on facilitating retreats and recollections.

The Archdiocese of Manila Campus Ministry, Ministry of Youth Affairs (AMCM-MYA) together with the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in the Philippines (SC), the Davao Association of Colleges and Schools (DACS) and the Religious of the Virgin Mary–Southern Mindanao Province (RVM-SM) were the organizers of the said convention.

Speakers of the convention included Brothers Karl Gaspar, Karel San Juan, Leah Vidal, and Fr. Sebastian Ambra.
