PDEA publicly destroys P1.8-M worth of shabu

PAGADIAN CITY: The Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency (PDEA), together with Gov. Antonio Cerilles and public and court officials destroyed 541 grams of shabu right before the probing eyes of the public Wednesday afternoon.

The shabu was worth P1.8 million, said PDEA-9 Reg. Dir. Joseph C. Ladip, confiscated from a suspected drug carrier named Albadar A. Abdul, who was arrested during a raid in the city last October.

Ladip explained that in the spirit of transparency and accountability, they conducted proper proceedings before the total destruction of the confiscated contraband.

Some 55 grams taken from the total 541 grams of shabu destroyed were already submitted in court for evidence, he added.

Cerilles, in the simple program, said the fight against illegal drugs is a concern for all sectors of the society and not only left for law enforcement agencies.

The governor said he has been stern in his fight against the proliferation of illegal drugs in the province shown by his hostility to known drug lords when he created the Provincial Special Operation on Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Force.

Aside from the said officials, representatives of the church and civil society organizations and media members witnessed the event. (WITH REPORTS FROM JONG CADION)
