Mabuting kaibigan, ngunit masamang kalaban.
This is how I perceive Jun Cabahug of Aurora today.
But right or wrong in my estimates, I can’t in him such a quality of a kalaban. This is so because when I chanced him over the weekend at his cozy and “state of the art” Aurora Presidencies where he is holding his office, I found him to be the same guy I knew earlier to be that amiable, cordial to friends, soft spoken and down to earth courteous.
But whether friend or a kalaban, so be it. It’s the mayor learning his lessons in politics. Being passive and submissive in politics is not good. People need to be tough and hard at times. Tough in the sense that as chief executive of his town, he cannot just allow any, specially politicians from the outside to rule the Auroranhon using their dirty money and political tricks. The mayor recounting his political experience in the past. His loses in politics on account of his being passive and submissive is now a thing of the past. Cabahug is one of the most respected politician in the first district, being the only mayoralty candidate of the Lakas party who survived in the political onslaught of 2007.Low profile and prayerful as he is today, he is likened to a proverbial “balite” tree. Cannot be threatened and toppled easily. A name that has become an institution in his town. Speaking about politics, just treat him fairly, otherwise you will get the dose of your own medicine.
That’s mayor Jun Cabahug in action. Making him so preoccupied these days are his infrastructure projects which he hopes the same could be put on use by his constituents before his term ends, even as he enjoins including his opposition kagawads to work him which he claims to be responding positively because they themselves share common aspirations for Aurora.
Besides the imposing Aurora presidencia that Jun had just completed, right now he is working for the completion of a 28km farm-to-market-road, including a 3rd level waterworks system, benefiting all 44 barangays, that is bringing potable water direct at the population’s kitchen. These are only few of the many major projects he initiated during his incumbency. Total project cost of the project amounts to PHP104 million pesos, fund out of their own initiative because as he aptly said, Aurora town is being left orphaned by Governor Auring Cerilles. Asked why he got no support from the province? Mayor Cabahug only quipped and said “oh,alam nyo na” Meaning, it is dirty politics at work.
With the legacy Cabahug has done in his town, he is now in the best fighting form for 2010. How ready or not, remains to be seen even as he announced his upcoming political scenario. His achievement will showcase and speak well for his next victory. I am quite sure his people will rally behind his leadership. After which, if his people still need his services he can continue serving as mayor his town until the end of his term. From there he can retire from the ugly world of politics and live a peaceful life thereafter.
