PNP, AFP tighten security in Zambosur terminals

PAGADIAN CITY: Not to be outdone by lawless elements, the provincial police and the military has tightened security in Zamboanga del Sur, mainly all transport terminals.

Police provincial director S/Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre said he wants to ensure the safety of the riding public as he ordered all police stations to conduct random checkpoints along the highway and within their boundaries.

Ecaldre’s order came after the bus bombing incident in Maramag, Bukidnon, which killed 10 people and injured 42 others.

Zamboanga del Sur is mainly served by a fleet of Rural Transit Mindanao, Inc. (RTMI) buses that also owns the bus where a bomb exploded on Tuesday.

Ecaldre said PNP personnel are “to strictly inspect baggage and cargoes at bus terminals.”

The police director’s order also came after a discovery of an unattended baggage left inside the terminal’s CR in Bulatok, this city.

Explosive demolition personnel said the contents of the baggage were only carpentry and electrical tools and some personal belongings.

City PNP Chief Supt. Glenn Dulawan likewise assured the public’s safety at Plaza Luz for the whole of Pakuhan 2014.

Duwalan added the public must also cooperate in the implementation of security measures through inspections along the entrance of the plaza during the nightly Christmas activities.
