Media group told to be fair-minded

PAGADIAN CITY: One is reminded, rather told again, to become a rational and moderately good newsmaker.

Such message is thrown by Gov. Antonio Cerilles to members of the Zamboanga del Sur-Pagadian City Press Inc. (ZPPI)--the mother organization of city and provincial journalists.

Officers and members of ZPPI held their Christmas party, Saturday, Dec. 13, here coinciding with the induction of its new set of officers.

ZPPI is presently headed by DxBZ-Radyo Bagting anchor Marive Jongco as president.

Cerilles, in his speech, suggested to the local media to make inquiries and follow a line of investigation when doing newsworthy items about officials and private individuals.

Being aggressive on air and on paper may repeatedly hogged headlines but it’s a bad control to the community, whether downbeat or constructive.

Cerilles’ rationale, he explains, is that media should be a collaborator in the development of Pagadian and Zamboanga del Sur and therefore continue to find inspiring and motivating news activities that is beneficial to many.

The governor pleaded to media members to be qualified, proficient in their job to deserve the admiration from the public by keeping watch also its ranks.

Regulating ZPPI will make more unreliable and underhanded media persons out of the organization, Cerilles added.

Later in the evening, the governor handed out wrapped gifts to all ZPPI members, followed by different parlor games and merrymaking.(RENILYN ADAY)
