Driver killed; 2 hurt in new van robbery



PAGADIAN CITY: Two passengers who turned out to be hold-uppers killed the van driver they were riding with and wounded two others in a heist in the nearby Sibugay, police report reaching The Philippine Preview said, Monday.

Police Regional Office-9 information officer Insp. Dahlan Samuddin said the incident took place Sunday morning along the national highway at Sitio Kinner, Lapaz, Naga, Zambo Sibugay.

Samuddin identified the fatality as Miguelito Lacanaria, a resident of Buug, Zambo Sibugay, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died on the spot.

Wounded were Jovie Balucos and her two-year-old daughter, Samuddin said. They were admitted at the hospital for treatment.

Police investigation said the passenger van driven by Lacanaria was loaded with 15 passengers and going to Ipil when the robbers declared a stick-up at Lapaz, Naga.

Police also said the suspects boarded the van in the Crossing of Sta. Clara, Naga. One of them seated at the back while the other positioned at the back of the driver seat.

Samuddin said the driver was repeatedly shot and killed when the he resisted and tried to disarm one of the suspects.

Balucos and her daughter were hit by stray bullets in the process as the suspects fled away aboard a waiting motorcycle after divesting the passengers of undetermined cash and valuables, the PNP added.
