NUJP Normin chapters to take sessions on election reporting

LOCAL chapters of the NUJP in Northwestern Mindanao declared they will push through with their respective plans to promote best practices and professsionalization of their colleagues through continued seminars and workshop.

NUJP stands for National Union of Journalists of the Philippines. This early, members of its two chapters—Ozamiz and Pagadian—announced they will organize consecutive trainings in election reporting for the whole of October.

Philippine Daily Inquirer correspondent Ryan Rosauro heads NUJP-Ozamiz while Jong Cadion of Frontline Mindanao Online heads the Pagadian-Zamboanga del Sur chapter.

Rosauro said the NUJP Election Reporting Seminar for Misamis Occidental media will be held in Tangub City, whole day, on Oct. 18 while Cadion announced theirs is being slated on Oct. 25.

Prior to that, on Oct. 17, Catholic-run DxDD radio will conduct its special seminar on election coverage and news treatment, called “Election Reporting with the Perspective of the Church,” to be held at the Misamis Occidental Aquamarine Park in Sinacaban.

NUJP Director and Treasurer Rowena “Weng” Paraan will give the lecture on the three seminars.

Rosauro estimates a total of 45 journalists from around Misamis Occidental will be present on Oct. 18 while another 50 is expected to attend in the DxDD-organized lecture.

Cadion, meanwhile, said that his chapter, now in its second year of being revived, will start on profiling and recruiting new members in order to organize massive support for the campaign to uplift provincial media’s economic rights.

Underscoring media’s economic rights is NUJP’s thrust this year as the organization tackled on the comprehensive conditions of media members in Mindanao.

At present, talks are in the offing among the three NUJP chapters of Ozamiz, Pagadian and Iligan of an upcoming media sportfest this December as a way of preserving journalists’ comradeship and as a breathing space from media work.
