Cop escapes death after shooters failed to hit him

REPORT BY JONG CADION

A policeman barely escaped death after he was shot four times by two motorcycle-riding assassins, mid-morning last Tuesday.

All four bullets missed PO1 Felix Engalla Jr., assigned in the React Team, and who was with other people in a waiting shed near his residence in San Francisco District.

Engalla shot back at his attackers using his service firearm but also failed to hit the duo, who fled towards the west direction.

Police Chief Inspector Michael Palermo surmised the attempted killing of Engalla was work-related or in retaliation for the policeman’s active involvement in the anti-illegal drug campaign in the city.

Palermo said he is gathering witnesses’ statements for possible identification and the capture of the suspects.

Last January, a member of the 905th Provincial Mobile Group (PMG) assigned as a police investigator and his back rider was shot while riding a motorcycle for work.

The two victims were identified as PO3 Dexter Dalena and a police asset identified as Ronald Edo. Both survived the ambush.

Three days after the incident, a resident of Barangay Zambulawan, Dinas surrendered to authorities after he was cornered by pursuing operatives. He later admitted to shooting the PMG man.
