Good luck Barack and God Bless America!

(THE FOLLOWING IS A LETTER SENT TO MINDANAO PILGRIM, PROBABLY TO US PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA ALSO, BY BUTUAN CITY BASED REPORTER BEN SERRANO)

BUTUAN CITY--As I wrote this I don’t know if my idol Barack was already sworn into office (cause I don’t have CNN neither Fox news cable to watch at home) but surely he will be sworn in as the 44th President of the greatest nation in earth, the United States of America.

As people around the World watches him sworn into office, questions come across into mind can Barack Obama live up to the expectations as good steward of the American people?

I can’t just imagine the huge crowd of Americans or the mass of humanity at Washington D.C. watch him as history unfold before the eyes of the World the 47 year old Barack Obama become the 44th President of the U.S. of A.

Oh my! How lucky those people are! How’d I wish I was there because watching this inauguration at D.C. before the sea of humanity’s very eyes is History in the Making and will be recorded in the history books as the biggest inaugural event ever!

Can Barack Obama fill up the dreams and hopes of his people? Can he be a good servant?

Can his ideals, his best oratorical speech “ Change, yes we can!” solve the burgeoning problem of sometime violent militant Islamic fundamentalism that is growing like mushrooms in the Middle East?

Can he be a mirror of change for all the leaders around the World in both the First and the Third World especially the Philippines, the long ally of America that good governance is key to peace and development?

Until now, I still firmly believe that the traits that separates Filipinos and Americans is the spirit of VOLUNTEERISM for the common good.

While the Americans especially the good ones (oh! a lot of Americans are bad too) love volunteerism especially during elections, the Filipinos do work and volunteerism in exchange for something!

I mean people are people no matter where you are, seas are seas and plants are plants what separates man from animals is believing oneself for CHANGE!

While Philippines politicians do define DEMOCRACY is poor the people, off the people and buy the people, the real definition of democracy is for the people, of the people and by the people.

Can Barack make it? At the end of the day it is the cooperation of all Americans, black and while, yellow or blue, poor or rich that can make a DIFFERENCE!

But it makes sense to have a good steward of people’s faith, belief, resources and the idealism for real CHANGE!

God Bless America and good luck my idol Barack!

Yours Truly,
Filipino Ben Serrano
