TANGUB CITY—Local dancers, singers and artists called the Sinanduloy Cultural Troupe try to rediscover “Escala,” one of the Philippine folk dances mastered by Misamisnons a long time ago.
Escala is one of the nine dances introduced in the recent 4th Echo Dance Seminar Workshop on Philippine Folk Dances.
It was believed to be brought by the Boholanos and danced during wedding affairs by the bride and groom.
Held July 23-27 at the Sinanduloy Cultural Center, Physical Education teachers and dance choreographers around the region participated in to learn the steps.
Vice Mayor and Sinanduloy Cultural Troupe chairman Edemar Alota said the local government will explore and seek the origin of Escala, as to where in particular in the province it was widely danced in the past.
Then, after collecting the facts, the result would be forwarded to provincial government to have it institutionalized and integrated to PE classes in all schools in the province.
Escala was mentioned in the “First National Artist for Dance” written by Francisca Reyes Aquino.
Sinanduloy trainors then interpreted the dance with choir master Noriel Erap doing the music and after consulting the Philippine Folk Dance Society (PFDS), the dance was presented to the public.
PFDS National President Josefina Guillen praised the efforts in reviving the Escala. She assured that with the recent installation of the PFDS-Tangub Chapter, the dance will be see revival in next year’s National Folk Dance Workshop at Folk Arts Theater.
Regional Tourism chairman Philip Tan believed the program will help spruce up the tourism industry in the province.
He added that learning the culture and arts of a place is vital in tourism development since it is through this that others will know who and what kind of people are in the area.
