LABANGAN, ZAMBOSUR-- This town turned 59 with more development, different projects in place and improved peace and order condition, Mayor Abubakar Afdal, Al Hadj said in a press conference attended by MINDANAO MONITOR.

“I am proud of the peace and order situation of Labangan. Muslims and Christian live in harmony and there is no more prejudice between them, Afdal said.

“One of the dreams of the people of Labangan is to have an Integrated Bus Terminal and Public Market, whose construction is now ongoing, funded with P28-million, and set to finish in December,” he added.

The mayor also said that their water system is now in full operation with P50 minimum rate, after the local government took over the reigns from the Labangan Water District.

At present, the municipality is implementing Rep. Victor Yu’s project, a four-room, two storey school building in barangays of Bokong, Tapudok, Upper Pulacan and Tawagan Norte. The local government has chipped for the project’s completion.

As to roads, the one in Brgy. Cogonan was constructed, using the congressman’s funds.
Afdal also disclosed that the town is an awardee, in terms of implementing the Eco-Gov project, a program protecting coastal marine resources.

In Brgy. Bulanet, for example, the local government has strictly protected the sanctuary of the pawikans hatching their eggs there. “We also developed our beaches for tourism,” Afdal quipped.

Recently, Afdal purchased two hectares of land in Brgy. Balimbingan to used as the town’s garbage dumpsite. The DENR has already issued an Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) for the said project.
