MARAWI CITY—Former Mindanao State University (MSU) professor, Dr. Lolita Rodriguez, who was reported kidnapped by four unidentified armed men, June 22, was recovered by authorities in Brgy. Pantaon, Saguiran, Lanao del Sur.
Mayor Sultan Fahd “Pre” Salic relayed this belated information to the MINDANAO MONITOR in a conversation inside his office, commending also the PNP for their prompt action in pursuing Rodriguez’s kidnappers.
Rodriguez was kidnapped while waiting for a ride to Iligan City in front of Jamiatu Mindnao Al Islamia Foundation (JMIF). The men who took her forced the teacher to board a Tamaraw FX.
Rodriguez currently teaches at the JMIF. She said she was blindfolded inside the car and didn't know where she was brought.
Security guards who witnessed the incident fired at the suspects who later fled from the scene after hitting and wounding one of the guards, identified as Abdullah Momin and Amano.
Momin was hit in his shoulder while Amano was hit in his right hand.
A bystander teacher, identified as Rosel Valencia, was also hit in her right leg. All three were taken to Amai Pakpak District Hospital.
Salic, upon learning of the incident, immediately created a crisis management committee composed of representatives from the 103rd Brigade, 33rd Infantry Battalion, PNP and Ulamas to locate or negotiate and rescue the victim.
Authorities said Rodriguez’s abductors may have been her students who failed in their subjects or has something to do with the result of the recently held JMIF boards of director election or the coming ARMM election, whichever, this paper’s source did not elaborate.
