BFAR gives fishing gears, nets to poor fishers

TANGUB CITY--In order to give further earning at the same time solve illegal fishing activities in the bay area, the bay Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) recently distributed 95 fishing gears to selected poor fishermen here.

Provincial aquatic resources officer Nilda Abao told this paper that village chieftains from 15 coastal baranggays in the cityhave identified six indigent beneficiaries of the program and were given one set or 100 meter fishing gears for use in catching crabs and shrimps.

BFAR’s move is under the hunger mitigation program of President Gloria Arroyo.

A monthly evaluation will be conducted by Abao’s office to determine catch reports of the said fishers and check if their nets were properly put to good use.

If BFAR’s program becomes a success, more fishing gears will be given to other fishermen around the province, Abao assures.

For her part, city administrator Tessie Lomanta thanked the BFAR and encouraged fishermen to use the gears and nets properly.
