Jaraula urges tour agencies to help promote Cagayan de Oro


CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Mayor Constantino Jaraula exhorted members of the Cagayan de Oro Travel and Tours Association (COTTA) to help promote the unique cultural and historical features of the city.

During the 6th Induction of Officers and New Members of COTTA, Jaraula stressed the important role of tour agencies in showcasing the best of the city to their clients.

The mayor cited such historical facts in the city that is unique to the city as the landing of Gen. Douglas McArthur in Macabalan wharf before escaping to Australia via the Del Monte airstrip, the Cagayan de Oro River which is very rich in flora and fauna and its importance to the history, among others.

He added that aside from the unique historical features of the city, the COTTA members can boast to their guests, the city’s friendly and peace-loving people, its maintenance of peace and order and now its cleanliness, especially that of Divisoria and the public markets.

“We really have to distinguish ourselves on the level of quality against any other destination since we are very accessible having 10 flights daily and regular daily voyages and that we have other distinctive brand as the educational center in Northern Mindanao and having the world-class Rodelsa Hall,” Jaraula pointed out.

“Think larger than you used to. Do not be limited. Feel the pride of being a Cagayanon because the city government will support you all the way,” he said.

He likewise appealed to the tour operators to act as one family, competing only in terms of standard and quality but never in terms of commerce.

Among the new COTTA officers inducted by Mayor Jaraula for 2007-2009 are Liza Licudine, Sunbee Tours and Travel-president, Marina Mabayo, Grandscape-vice president, Maricor de la Pena, House of Travel-secretary, Helen Sabenicio, Saga Travel-treasurer, Maria Luisa Rubic, Northmin Travel-Auditor and Jhules Baril, Regatta Tours-PRO.
