GENERAL SANTOS CITY: This city will
have its first pedestrian overpass, says Mayor Ronnel Rivera.
The DPWH, with Rivera and other
local government officials spearheaded the ground-breaking ceremony of the
footbridge in Calumpang last Friday.
The overpass will be constructed at
the corner of Cahilsot and the national highway with an estimated length of 30
feet and a vertical clearance of 5.6 feet.
The footbridge will serve many
students walking to and fro nearby schools such as General Santos City National
High School (GSCNHS) as they cross the highway.
The construction of the overpass
will also lessen vehicular accidents in the area.
Rivera expressed his delight for
the construction of the overpass, saying the bridge’s construction will give
parents a peace of mind knowing their children are safe while crossing the
streets.
Two other footbridges is planned for
construction, one at the Notre Dame of Dadiangas University area and the other
one will be placed adjacent to St. Elizabeth Hospital, Rivera disclosed.
The P12.2 million footbridge will
be finished by this June, said the DPWH. (with
