Warden says no VIP treatment at Zambo jail

ZAMBOANGA CITY: The city penitentiary is not bothered with VIP treatment since none was given for certain detainees inside their cells.

Jail Warden C/Insp. Julius Aro said he makes sure that all inmates are being treated equally.

Aro’s declaration came after the recent discovery of anomalies at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa where rich prisoners there were afforded luxury gadgets and contraband items.

Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago earlier lambasted the discovery, saying it is “a mockery out of the justice system by turning our jails into private resorts.”

Whether rich and high profile detainees or poor, all the inmates are given equal treatment, Aro said, as he they have jail policies adopted for all and no exemption is being given.

The warden stressed their jail is implementing strictly that visitor security check for any contraband items.

The jail warden disclosed that the problem now lies with congestion, as some of the detainees do not have enough bed space where to sleep at night time

Because of this, inmates are exposed to sickness, despite medical check-up every now and then, he said.

Aro appealed more for complimentary jail facility as the number of detainees is getting bigger.
