(EDITORIAL) Justice for the victims of Maguindanao Massacre is government righteousness

Bringing closure and justice to families of the 58 Ampatuan Massacre victims will be an adequate amount of relief not only to victim’s families but also to the existing journalists whose livelihood is positioned at the tip of their pen. This may even be no excuse why the government does little to protect its citizens than push for a more demanding action to stop the killings of journalists.

President Aquino’s statement and the police have claimed that there were doubtful cases of the victims being “real journalists” and as to why they received a trail of threats and intimidation before being killed. They go to length to discredit media killings as a result of unethical practices or personal disputes. Such proclamation only proves the government’s lack of political will to end the impunity in media killings.

Ignoring the violence against journalists will be a problem so serious for the government to being accountable on human rights and the lack of good leadership. Incidents of media killings have to be investigated fairly and thoroughly at the very least. And as we started the ball rolling, let’s give what's due justice is to the families of the 58 Ampatuan Massacre.

Justice is righteousness, it is the rendering to all their due, whether to God or man. A nation's real greatness consists not in its conquests, magnificence, military or artistic skill, but in its observance of the requirements of justice and religion.
