1 killed, 5 injured in Sibugay truck mishap


PAGADIAN CITY: A driver was killed while two of his passengers were injured after their delivery truck overturned at Brgy Langon, Tungawan in the nearby Zamboanga Sibugay, a latest report reaching The Philippine Preview said.

Witnesseses said the truck was carrying several cases of soft drinks at the time of the accident.

Initial police investigation identified the dead person as truck driver Wilfredo Mahilum.

Injured were his helpers Reneboy Fabe and Tomasito Cabatas Salundagit.

Also injured were DPWH construction workers Jose Estecomin, Joemarie Sumalinog and Simon Arnaiz, who were sleeping near the highway and were hit by debris.

Police said the truck left a soft drink plant in Zamboanga City and was heading for Buug in Zamboanga Sibugay when the accident occurred.

Police also said the truck may have lost its brakes as it approached a blind curve in the road, which in turn overshot the highway and flipped over.

Last Oct. 19, three people were reported injured in a vehicular accident in the nearby San Pedro village of the same place after the driver lost control of the steering wheel of the cargo truck loaded with soft drink products, which then accidentally ran into the ditch at the side of the road.
