Zambosur, GRF launch Barangay Justice for Peace

The Provincial Government and barangay justice advocate group Gerry Roxas Foundation (GRF) recently launched the Barangay Justice for Peace (BJP) Project in a bid to strengthen the village justice system of the province’s 26 towns and lone city.

Launched last Jan. 21 at the Bulwagan ng Kabataan, Provincial Government Center in Brgy. Dao, The BJP is also supported by the Southern Philippines Research and Extension Foundation (SOPREX) and the Unites States Agency for International Development (USAID).

“This project aims to promote community peace in unserved ARMM and non–ARMM communities by replicating the Barangay Justice Service System (BJSS) project and integrating community–based alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in local level planning and implementation,” Provincial Information Officer Allan June Molde said.

The said launching will formally introduce the project to the stakeholders and establish connections between key officials and SOPREX as the local resource partner and will be involve the training and mobilization of peace advocates in nine Mindanao provinces and in alliance with civic organizations and LGUs of the province.

Molde said the towns of Dimataling, Dinas, Lapuyan, Josefina, and Ramon Magsaysay will be the target locations where BJP will be implemented in the province with a two-year memorandum of agreement with its partner organizations.

More than 10,000 BJP advocates can be found at present in Lanao and Davao provinces, Marawi City, Maguindanao, Sulu, Basilan, Tawi-Tawi, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Cebu, Bohol, Zamboanga del Norte, Bulacan, and Camarines Sur.
