Tabak troopers turn over relief goods for typhoon victims

THE First Infantry (Tabak) Division based in Camp Major Cesar Sang-an, Labangan, this province, takes their turn in helping the victims of typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng by contributing bundles of relief goods to San Jose Parish, this city.

The parish will then send these to Luzon for distribution.

Major General Romeo Lustestica, commanding general, said he sympathized with the sufferings experienced by the victims of the two deadly typhoons.

The military official hopes the bitter memories of the victims and their lost kins will be lightened up upon seeing the spirit of volunteerism and generosity shown by the Tabak troops.

Lustestica’s wife, Marilou, assisted by G7 chief Lt. Col. Rosalio Pompa, led the distribution of 69 sacks and three bales of used clothings, 13 boxes of noodles, 10 boxes of canned goods and one sack of rice.

Ondoy and Pepeng left an estimated P2.5-billion loss in public property and agriculture, including several dozens of dead people and others missing.

Private citizens and members of NGOs, media, health, and church communities, development agencies, foreign governments and the business community have also shown deep concern by distributing financial, logistical and relief assistance to typhoon victims in the provinces badly hit by the two typhoons.

President Gloria Arroyo, meanwhile, has commended the efforts of various social and service agencies of government for their efficient response in mitigating the dire consequences of the crisis.
