PCWD Requested by the LUWA
Five Municipalities of Dumalinao, Tabina, San Pablo, Midsalip Zamnboanga del Sur already undergone the orientation conducted by the Pagadian City Water District following the requirement set by the Local Utilities Water Association (ALUWA) for their application to operate LGU-run water service.

PCWD is the only Waster District within the area requested by the LUWA to conduct orientation to all LGUs planning to operate water services of to establish water district in their respective area of responsibility.

P113-M Project PCWD on going
The Pagadian City Water District with the implementation of its 113-million pesos project is the solution of the water supply demand of the city as a new Regional Government Centre in Western Mindanao following the full transfer of Regional Offices from Zamboanga City to Pagadian City.

“The project is on going and now undertaking by the private contractor from Davao and it is on the 39% accomplishment as of end of October. The target date of completion will be on February 2010,” PCWD General Manager Eldelberto Yorong told this paper.

“However, we are evaluating the request of the contractor for the extension of project due to some problem of weather condition from the previous months and the unexpected problem of digging for the lay-outing of big PVC pipe. It was found out that mostly of the area having difficulties cause by big stone and rocky that resulted to the delay of their works. The lay-outing of pipes has a total distance of 28-kilometers,” GM Yorong said.

Also included in the implementation of project is the construction of two bit water reservoir and pumping house station somewhere in Botatok along the North diversion road near the Philtel and along Patag Dao and the laboratory building.

The water tank in Bolatoc will cater the problem of water supply in Lumbia area, Kawit, San Pedro, Tuburan, Santa Maria and Pag-laum - I & II. For the Dao water tank, this will also in charge in distributing of water supply in Banale, Sto. NiƱo, San Jose, Gatas and to some area of Balangasan.

The total cost of project is Php113-millyon pesos and the Php95-million pesos of the total amount is funded by the Asean Development Bank through loan package counter parting system and the Php18-million pesos is the counterpart of PCWD

The PCWD will also conducting opening of new water sources in Danlugan, additional one in Tiguma, Manga and in Napolan through the construction of deep wheel. One Deep wheel cost 4-million pesos. These projects were included in the PCWD Development Plan Program. The Manga Source will double the capacity compared to our other water sources, GM Yorong disclosed.

Starting next year PCWD will construct one deep wheel in every year to strengthen the demand water supply especially in the upper portion of the city, GM Yorong added.

“We are also going to change our present water distribution system into Fill and Draws System, the water will be stocked first to the big water reservoir before it will be distributed to the consumers. Presently, we are operating in the Floating Distribution System (FDS. that has a high in maintenance of operation that will result the explosion of some of our water pipe connection due to the strong pressure of water. ,” PCWD GM Yorong also explained.

As of the moment, GM Yong appealed to the people especially the motorists be patients for the inconvenient on the on going construction of water piping.

PCWD Clean Water Supply
The Pagadian Water District assured the public of the cleanliness of their potable water supply served to the house hold in the city.

“We are conducting the required two times a year for the Physical & Chemical Analysis and conducting daily for the Bacteriological Testing instead of 5-samples a month as required by the Philippine National Standard of the Department of Health (DOH), GM Young assured.

The PCWD is using the Liquid type of Chlorine and also following the require mixture of one milligram per litter or point two or 1/5 of the maximum requirement using automated mechanical mixing system, Yorong explained.

PCWD General Manager was also denied on the issue of using Moriatic Acid in mixing the water for the anti-bacteria.

It was learned that Pagadian City has a 100% safe of water source or Class-A source from the underground using deep wheel free flowing water.
