New Barangay Bagsakan in Tambulig opens

Almost completing its target of 21 Barangay Bagsakan (BB) for this year, the Department of Agriculture (DA) opened the 19th BB in Gabunon, Tambulig, Zamboanga del Sur.

Regional technical director Constancio Alama, who represented RED Oscar Parawan, handed over two freezers, chillers and ice chests as cold storage, including three weighing scales and plastic crates to start operation.

The BB in Gabunon will be the catchment area for agricultural, livestock and poultry products from the neighboring upland and highway villages of Tambulig and Molave.

BBs are like small stores for meat, poultry, fish and vegetable products to be made accessible at the barangay level

The DA said BBs help increase farmers' income, ensure stable price and supply of food commodities, encourage barangay empowerment and strengthen the partnership of different stakeholders at the barangay level.

BBs and Bagsakan Centers are counterparting projects between DA and LGUs. The one in Gabunon, a converted old barangay office, is the 6th in the province, with a P30,000 funding from the barangay as seed capital.

Gabunon punong barangay Noel Fabriga thanked DA for the project and said that they will use the BB to sell various grocery products and their locally produced kalamansi juice puree made by the Gabunon Women's Association.

Board Member Ramon Blancia Jr., who represented Gov. Aurora Cerilles and MLGO Officer Priscillo Aleman, who represented Mayor Caridad Balaod were the other disgnitaries present during the turnover ceremony.
