ILIGAN CITY--A 2-year old child was found to have been afflicted by pneumonia while 14 other children out of the 22 patients holed in at the evacuation center in Matampay, Poona Piagapo, Lanao del Norte, were sick.
The cause was the lack of sanitation facilities and poor hygiene.
A foreign volunter doctor who diagnosed Aslaniah Sabdullah concluded that the infant was afflicted with pneumonia, measles and ear infection.
Bong Enriquez, programme coordinator of Ecoweb, likewise said that more than 22 patients took shelter at the Ecoweb Resource Center after getting sick inside the Matampay evacuation center.
Of the 22 patients, seven were diagnosed to have serious medical conditions like German measles, lung infection, Pulmonary infection; Cystitis-infection in urine, hyperthyroid and pneumonia.
Three children and a senior citizen were rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment.
Enriquez told PANGUIL BAY MONITOR that the patients were part of the ten families occupying one evacuation center.
These residents came from Tanglaw, Piangamama-an and Nunungan where Camp Bilal, the lair of Kumander Bravo is located.
The military has advised residents from going back to their dwellings since military operations are continuing and that the barangay has been declared as a “No Mans land” for the meantime.
Enriquez added that Ecoweb continued delivering its services to the affected residents, as it is monitor also its water project built at Matampay.
The Provincial Government has already sent to the evacuation center the needed medicines, including the assistance from Mayor Salipada Mamarinta Usman.
